T W E L V E??

I guess that's what I'm worth these days...12 little comments to my first ever give away! I think I've had more comments than that before, even when I wasn't giving you anything...hold please...let me investigate!

Yep...my post about my baby's nursery had lots of comments, and a post I wrote about being sick had lots of comments, and my post on my friend Janelle's family had lots of comments...and my post about naming my baby...that had the most comments...but it still wasn't THAT many...

Soooo...are you not into cookies?
Are you dieting and can't afford the cookies on your waistline?
Do you like babies and nurseries better?
Is Janelle more popular than me? (I'd say yes based on her facebook status...WHOA!)

Are YOU still being a closet reader and not wanting to comment?

Do you all just really NOT care about my new blog? I think you must not realize it's kind of cool...mostly because I think it's cool and so that means it must be, right?

Soooooooooo...that leaves me three options...
1. let the 12 commenters have REALLY good odds at getting some yummy cookies...
2. give a few more days to close the comments since my new blog isn't even live yet and I want feedback on it
OR
3. listen to google and go get "a session or two with the therapist."

If you want to make me feel better about my complex, leave me a comment on this post.

And for the record...I'm going to do #2 and I'm now closing the give away on Tuesday...just to see if I can double my comments...if I can't, you can bet I'll be doing #3!

SPRING FOR CHARITY FESTIVAL IS COMING...and you won't want to miss out on the cuteness! Things are in place and we are ready to finally announce the event...you've all been DYING to know more haven't you??

Well, wait no more...we are ready to book you for one of our limited photography mini session with these adorable baby chicks! I mean come on, we buy the spring get up for the kiddos and we never have great photos of those kids...and what could be better to spice up the photo than real live baby chicks?

Marnee and I might be completely crazy...kids and animals...at the same time? It will be crazy, but in these times, what better can we do than to give back to our community while at the same time giving YOU, our clients, a wonderful photo opportunity at a fraction of the price of our normal session fees.

We are teaming up with a wonderful venue to host this event, Little Scholars Academy. They have some wonderful activities and crafts planned for the kids to enjoy after their session is over. Some highlights are face painting, bounce house and a huge outdoor playground!!

The Spring for Charity Festival will be on Saturday, March 21st at 17220 N. 43rd Place in Phoenix. The 10 minute mini sessions will cost $75 and will include a $50 donation to The Child Crisis Center. You will also receive a large 12x18 print from your session! We will also have gift prints and Spring or Easter cards available for purchase for anyone interested.

We will only have about 25 sessions available and are announcing it here for our blog readers first before our promotional items start getting distributed! To book your session you can call me at 623.935.5513, you will need to pay in advance to reserve your session time.

I've finally got myself a new camera and am selling my Canon 20D. It is in mint condition with very few marks or scratches. It was only used for one year before it became my back up camera and was rarely used. I also have a battery and strap for it. I recently had the sensor cleaned at Tempe Camera as well.

So I've already seen this a kajillion times...yes kajillion is a word!! And so I wasn't about to do it...but then to give my husband an example, I did it for his name...and then for mine and I must admit...I did laugh out loud, a few times!!

So you've probably all seen it to...google your name and "needs"

On my first page this is a few of my highlights...

Jennifer needs a smack daddy
Jennifer needs to play by the rules
Jennifer needs to develop age-appropriate language for social situations
Jennifer needs a shave
Jennifer needs a session or two with the therapist

and then I got to the bottom and I read this...

Jennifer needs to accept that she's gained what looks like some major pounds. Probably from the cookies...that's a lot of sugar.

And so then I stopped and decided to go to bed!

MY NEW BLOG!!!
This is an exciting week...I will be launching my NEW BLOG along with my new logo/brand that I've worked so hard to create and perfect!! I've been working on recreating my business from the ground up and that meant starting with a professionally designed logo and blog...and after months in the making...I'm launching it this week!

This should be exciting for you as well...you see, with all the excitement I decided it'd be a great time for a give away...and YOU my blog readers...are the ones I want to reward!

The giveaway? Cookies! Sorry folks, they aren't going to be homemade by me...I didn't want to kill off any readers the first week! I'm not starting a trend here...I just so happen to be on my computer while a birthday is fresh in my mind...and I happen to owe these guys a peek at this photo...so be not offended that your birthday was forgotten...you see that's the norm around here =)

Here's my little brother Chris who's birthday is today...and his wife Sally who also just had a birthday!! They gave up their Valentines to watch my little munchkins and I felt putting up this smashing photo of them was a great way to say thanks!! We'll have to do more photos of them soon since Sally has lost a whole person of weight and really wants a post wedding, pre-baby "couples/non-engagement" session since we never really did a session for their engagement!!

Happy birthday you two...enjoy our favorite place for dinner...my mouth waters just thinking of the yummy bread, salad and steak I could have if we were joining you!

We took this family out on a brisk winter morning to take some photos while they had their whole family together!

I understand this is a rare moment with Papa and this little guy...sounds like my kids, they never go to their grandparents!!

The kids loved walking around the farm and looking for roosters and peacocks...which made for some good bargaining power to get them to sit for photos! These little guys are right around Emery's age and I just love their little faces!! This is such a fun age!!

A great shot of the original clan...but all grown up!!

In all of my work as I strive to learn and push myself more...one of the most difficult sessions to conquer is that of a newborn. Always unpredictable, often long, sometimes really hard with fussy babies that won't sleep...that was not the case with the following little babes...

Lately these are my favorite sessions! I just LOVE getting adorable photos of these new little spirits that help their moms and dads capture their precious nature forever! It's such a surreal, sleepless, difficult yet rewarding time for parents and the photos just help you remember that it's worth all the sleepless nights and fatigue!

Here's a sneak peak of William. He looks perfect and I just love the little hat! He was easy to work with and let us do all kinds of nakey pics!

And today I finally got to meet little Lacey, my friend Nicole's new baby! She was born when I was sick and it took me two weeks to see her...it was worth the wait and boy was she an angel for our session!

I did something a little different for Lacey's photos. I used all natural light and LOVED not feeling limited by the studio light!

Did I mention how much I LOVE my fixed 35mm lens? Shooting close on 1.8 leaves just those eyelashes sharp while the rest just fades into blur! I think I need an 85 fixed...I bet that would be even better with this shot!

Welcome home...

After a week of being at a conference, I made a safe arrival home at 1:45am...YES ONE am this morning (thanks Southwest).

I couldn't resist peeking in on my kids after being gone so long...the boys were out...
Emery was too...until she saw me...darn her for being a light sleeper like me! After much rocking and cuddling and even a new bottle...she finally went to sleep at 3am, which is when we finally got to go to sleep!

Muffins with Mom started at the school at 8am, Brennan came in to greet me at 6:50, he was already dressed, had his backpack ready and was attempting making his lunch, he was really excited for muffins with mom at school!

My husband was happy to hand over the "Mr. Mom" reigns, as he so nicely told me...

Muffins with mom is at 8.
Regency pest is coming at noon.
Weed control will be coming in the afternoon.
Emery has a Dr. appointment at 9:30 on Thursday.
You have 3 deliveries...canvases, new Lightroom 2 and new Adobe CS4
You have 8 new phone messages and over 100 emails...
Oh and check the home phone messages too!

Welcome Home honey...we missed you!

And Dawson had to contribute too...he REALLY wants to CELEBRATE Emery's birthday! What? She had a birthday? Oh yeah...she did didn't she?

And I didn't even get that pedicure I earned in Vegas! At least the house was still pretty clean!

Thanks to all 6 of my helpers that filled in while I was gone...does it really take that many people you ask? Well, probably not, but we couldn't burn out one on the first day!!

It was an AMAZING conference and weekend. Even with so little sleep I'm rejuvenated in my business desires and can't wait to implement the things that I learned. I'm grateful I had the chance to go. In the end, once I can really apply the things I've learned, my clients, my family and my business should all benefit from the time I was able to focus on my business, it's needs and how to more efficiently work. And of course my work will improve after I can perfect the newest photo techniques I learned.

What a difference a year makes...

A year ago today I woke up feeling very heavy (literally) and excited...it was to be my last pregnant day as the next morning I was going to be induced and have my Valentines baby. She was due on the 13th, my best efforts to get her here long before that to not compete with Valentines didn't work, so I decided my first little girl should just debut on Valentines Day, with all her pink glory.

She had another plan...I remember about 9am I walked into labor and delivery alone (there was no parking, my hubby dropped me off and went to park). I was all dolled up, showered, hair done and make up applied...if I was going to have a daytime baby, it was going to be in style. I walked up to the desk, completely composed and told the many nurses I was there to have a baby. They looked at me with glares like I was really stupid. My water had broken almost 2hours before and it only took another moment until a contraction came on strong and they could see I was for real...I rather enjoyed this exchange with those nurses =)

Little Emery made her way a short 6 hours later and made her mommy a very happy lady! I sure needed a baby girl! One of the first things I asked them was to double check she was really a girl!! She's been an angel from the start, always sleeping well, rarely crying and honestly, she's so easygoing, Reuben and I can't believe there are such babies that are so manageable from the start! I'm in total denial that she's ONE...it went WAY too fast!! Here's a few photos I pulled off my point and shoot camera since I didn't have all my files to access. I'll try to do a one year shoot and post those soon! This next one is when I was saying goodbye to her at the airport...she cried after this and reached out to me...I cried too, she sure loves me I knew it'd be hard to leave her...especially on her birthday!!

This sums her up...her jammies that say "I like to dream of mommy" I'm dreaming of you too baby girl and I'll see you in a few days! Happy Happy Birthday!

It's Russ's birthday too...send him a message on facebook...he's spending his birthday with Mickey Mouse...fun!

I'm super excited to be at the best Wedding and Portrait Photographer Conference in the industry!! It's hosted in Vegas and is always a great time full of so much information and learning and very little sleep!! I'm travelling with Marnee which is ALWAYS a good time! Of course our days are long and this year we signed up for a lighting class with an AMAZING photographer, Cliff Mautner, who was voted one of the top ten wedding photographers in the world! I've already learned so much from him and the way he sees light! We walked around MGM Grand photographing models in wedding attire as many people stopped wondering who the famous person was with 25 paparazzi photographers shooting them...that's always fun!

I brought work along with me but internet access has been limited, not to mention time, I'm hoping to have some time to get some more images online as I have plenty of things to share still. If not, I will be back in the office late next week and will be wrapping up some old projects then!

I'm not gonna lie, I might get a pedicure after walking what seems like miles just to get to class yesterday...my feet need it. And with a 50pound backpack of equipment and laptop, I might just need a massage too...oh wait, I forgot this is a work conference =) Thanks to the family who's helping and staying at my house while I'm away, I sure appreciate it! I also can't wait to have a special Valentines with my hubby. We haven't gotten away in so long. I'll try to take a pic with him, he loves to debut on my blog =)

I think this is seriously one of the cutest, nicest families you'll ever meet! I've known Bethany through her sister for some time and was super excited when we moved near them to attend church with them! Their family is AMAZING, cute, respectful and happy kids! Here's some shots we took in their backyard =) (Note...my husband has expressed his jealousy of this backyard...it's quite beautiful)

Loved this shot...she's so dang cute!

Oh and can't forget the mid session stop to feed Eliza, none other than 5 strips of bacon! I've never stopped a shoot for a bacon break, I think I 'd like to sometimes though. Eliza was needing a food boost for happiness and bacon is her thing...and she was NOT sharing one bite.

Oh yeah, can't forget the fun swing in the backyard too! That's a dream I have...I want a beautiful wooden swing and pics of my little girl on it!

Thanks to a nasty infection...you know the kind that makes you go to the Dr. three times in one week? Oh, and that requires more shots you can count. Oh, and the kind that requires your (squeamish) husband to perform mini surgery on you while you scream out from the pain...

Yeah, it's been a rough one and thanks to that nasty infection...this girls work and blogging has sure suffered. I can get over the blogging, but with only 4 days left til I leave for a conference, how on earth was I supposed to give up a week of editing to ILLNESS!

I'm not sure of the infection cuz lab results must have to come from another country around here...it may be a staph infection...whatever it is, it took over my hip in a fierce way and forced me to wear sweats most the week...cuz it hurt too bad to wear jeans!

But, no worries, Janelle took great care of me with my many calls to her (thanks) and aside from medicine that continues to make me feel like I need to throw up (like right now)...I think I'm getting better.

And it's about time, cuz my husband, he's not so into that business of mini surgery...and frankly neither am I. I'm ready to go back to the work I do best, and I'll leave that yucky medical stuff for the people that get excited to see oozing...eeeeeewwwwww!

Oh and I'm loving this textured wall...mostly because my new full frame camera sure shows off more with my favorite lens!! Oh, and more on that camera to come...I'm not quite ready to cross it off my 101 list yet!

Miss Emery is coming up quickly on her 1st birthday...are you KIDDING ME? I did NOT sign up for this...she's supposed to stay so little and cuddly and be my BABY! In honor of her turning of age, she's turning over a new leaf as well, for instance...

after taking 9 months of life to learn the excitement of ROLLING...

at 11months she FINALLY took off to crawling, and that's when it happened...

out went content, simple, sweet, baby

in came attitude, anger, stiff body, back arching, kicking and loud shreiking SCREAMS when she's mad!

Boy is that girl ready to make up for lost time!

For instance...Ms. Confused wants to get out of bed after a "forced" nap. Pick her up and she goes ballistic, whines, cries, throws her body around and wants OUT of your arms...so, you set her on the floor for her desired freedom and then...her world just crumbles, she's a crying, dramatic mess, how could you put her on the floor where she was telling you she wanted to be?

It's still manageable, heaven knows my boys could out tantrum this girl any day. She's still fairly distractable and it's mostly still funny (except when it's CLEARLY sleep time and she won't have it). Daddy says she's mean, she's very obvious in her forced dislike of him taking her from me...two hands to shove the kissy lips away...but hey, I'm frankly overdue for a little love from this house of "Daddy worshippers"...so that makes me happy!

we still love her to pieces and we're happy to see some personality emerge from our content little angel, it must mean she is developing at least!

This is one gorgeous, fabulous family (whom I'm lucky to be neighbors with)...they decided to do an updated family session and I'm so glad they did because I just can't believe how fun and easy it is to shoot OLDER kids that all look so beautiful...and handsome (James).

LOVING this shot of Dani...she just looks so beautiful!

Sarah is the sweetest lil' thing! Last week we had to help rescue their dog...long story, but there was Sarah so tenderhearted if Mom tried to pull the dog by the leash too hard...she just couldn't stand the "motivation" we were giving to Dillon to get him home!!

An average day around here...
I put on my mom hat and got the kids ready for school
Then I put on my taxi hat...they had to get a ride to school
Then I put on my gym cap...somehow I gotta lose those extra baby pounds
Once home it was mom hat again, the baby needed food, diaper and sleep
Ahhhh...a quick moment to put on business hat, check email and phone messages
But wait, you can't pick up kids from school in gym clothes still smelling...time to wear the pamper hat, a quick shower and change
housewife hat is in order, quick house pick up hoping to pass it off as clean
taxi hat for preschool pick up
mom hat for baby and 3yr old needs
Another quick business moment, sent a few emails while kids played happily
oooooooo...most fun, redecorator hat because fed ex guy brought me a nice package from Pottery Barn, you see i'm trying to make my client room more polished FINALLY
Mom hat comes again, Brennan's home from school, noise level up and thankfully my saving grace has arrived to let me work a few hours...thanks Amber
off to the office to wear more hats, marketer, editor, retoucher, graphic designer, order fullfiller, secretary, photographer (so many business things in the works...)
about 20 interruptions from the boys to share whatever highlight or anger that's on the mind
around 6:30pm, mom time we did promised date nights with the boys, Dawson came with me
9:00pm kids finally in bed, finally a bit more time to work quietly and do ONE more thing...
honey, i'll only be in here like 30 minutes...
and somehow it gets to be midnight and i'm so exhausted that I'm looking for my sleeping hat...

Lately I feel like I'm just incredibly ADD, I start so many projects and can rarely finish one because there's always 10 other things interrupting or waiting to get done!! I know I'm not alone, who's life doesn't have this many hats? I'm just wondering how are you managing with all of your hats?

Here are a few pages for the sign in book we designed for Matt and Heather's upcoming wedding. Heather wanted it to be simple without text and we also wanted to include photos of her son Blake.

To add some variety I put some texture on the images/pages throughout.

Love this last page...he's so cute! The guests will be able to sign directly onto the pages. The book is printed as an 8.5x11 and has a beautiful linen cover with an image opening!

Hire a nanny so I can work...(on goals AND work)!! I'm super excited that I can cross this one off of my 101 list! This is a long overdue post, among many other 101 goals I need to update (at what point do you give up that your husband is going to help you load some video on your blog to cross off a 101 item? Is 6months to that point?)

Anyway, meet Amber, the girl that makes working from home with 3 kids possible! I hired Amber a few months ago and decided to do a mini shoot with her husband Bret, aren't they just such a cute couple?

Amber has been so WONDERFUL to have around. She's got an incredible amount of patience and my kids just ADORE her. She's one of the ONLY people Emery goes to willingly and it's cute to see Emery squeal and kick when she sees Amber.

Bret and Amber have been married less than 2 years and remind me so much of us at their stage in life! I love it...there is definitely something to be said about the fun of those early married days (pre-kids)! Thanks Amber for all you do for my kids! We're so happy to have you!

Photoshop quick tip

I took a few classes at Imaging that talked all about Photoshop CS4. It's AMAZING and I'm super excited to get it for myself...there were a few very valuable things that would make my design work SO MUCH easier!!

For any of you that work in photoshop, I thought I'd tell you one of the tricks that was seriously SOOOOOOOOOOO EASY that most of us in the class didn't know! It applies to any version of photoshop, although I'm not sure about Elements. We actually had a round of applause to the instructor for this one SUPER SIMPLE tip...if only Adobe made it easier in the program to figure it out!!

So, you know how you have a ruler at the top of the page with all the little lines in between each inch? Have you ever opened your calculator to try and figure out the dead center of that ruler or to help space your images properly? Well, not any more! Right click on the ruler on top and select percentage and you can easily see the ruler in a percentage form rather than inches. There's also pixels, centimeters and others if you'd use those!

In that very moment all sleeplessness and monies paid was worth coming to the Conference...except to be quite honest, there were SO MANY of those moments during those 3 days!

This is where I've been this week! I had a great time despite waking up at 4:30am, coming home around 8:00pm and getting to bed around midnight...and now that I'm back in the office, I'm certainly more buried than I was a week ago!

Nonetheless, I'm MOTIVATED. These conferences always do that, and THIS IS MY YEAR to be more organized, have better service and really change my business model to be more in line with what I envision. I can't wait to show you with upcoming changes...

Not a thing we could eat for dinner last night either...

Kids were sour this morning, they really wanted BREAKFAST (insert cry or whine here) it was either let them have chips or cookies for breakfast, or head to the store...I opted for the store, but then got them a donut...should've just given them the cookies or chips...but hey, they think I'm the best mom in the world now!! And their teachers will thank me later =)
